It's My Life

So my last blog post was about making decisions, because we all go through times in our lives that require us to make some big time decisions.  Especially if they could alter our futures.
Life is a story where we embark on a journey.  One foot in front of the other and having barely a clue where we are going.  Surrounded by elements and influencing factors beyond our control that try to toss and turn us like a ship at sea.  I could say that lately my future and purpose has been quite heavily laid on my mind, and I like to think that I know exactly what I want to do with my life, but honestly maybe its not about that.
As a person with dreams, goals, and ambitions, my future is very important to me.  I don't take it very well to think that maybe my life won't end up how I would want it to.  I don't like being not in control.  I naturally pursue freedom and independence to claim my own life and call it my own.  No one should take that away from me.  But where does God fit into that picture?
I recently read a passage in my Bible that really struck out to me.  I am sure you have heard of it.

“Whoever desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me. 35 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel’s will save it. 36 For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? 37 Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?   Mark 8: 34-37

Its a scary thought if you think about it.  Jesus did not speak these words lightly and he made it quite clear what it means to follow him.  I am sure his disciples all had dreams and plans just like you and I.  Perhaps Peter wanted to live a quiet life fishing and get married and have a dozen kids.  Perhaps Matthew wanted to be a successful businessman and make money.  Who knows?  But each and every single one of them had to give up everything they knew, get out of their comfort zones, and change the world.  And I can tell you this, changing the world is no small task.  Now I am not saying that it is all of our destinies to change the world or that we all have to disregard our dreams.  Dreams are a beautiful thing and can be used for God's glory.  I am just saying keep an open mind and let your God lead.
