A Discussion on Self Induced Slavery
Welcome to the rambles of my philosophical ponderings. I am delighted you have found your way to my corner of the universe yet again! So recently I have engaged myself in the gruesome task of employment. Twelve long hours do I sacrifice to the promise of money. Heinous, if I do say so myself. Nonetheless in this reality it is deemed quite necessary if one were to afford a decent livelihood. It is the American dream to indebt ourselves to universities, cars, houses, etc. If you dare have no want for such things, beware of judgmental gawking and reproving jests. But how could you not? They provide comfort and a sense of security. A safe environment for present or future offspring. This is how the world works. You reap what you sow. But seriously, should we not have any other reason? Is security that important where we are willing to give up everything to achieve it? Our time. Prerequisite ambitions. Quality relationships. The thrill of life itself! And then to make matters worse, we dare claim the nonexistence of adventure and a life worth living as a result.
Do not misinterpret me however; I do not wish to discredit responsibility. Nor to relinquish the value of work. Yet it is my desire to debate upon the foundations society has bound our will. For it is common once the stages of adulthood settles upon the youth, they are overwhelmed by a sense of fear to choose their life's path. This is in part due to our forefathers who make it their duty to ensure our successful livelihood. Yet, where has it come to that our dreams are not equated with success? Since when has material values and lofty titles become the sole definition thereof? Life on this earth is fleeting and short. We come and we go. We live and we die. Why limit the vast possibilities of life to other people's finite minds? Life is the world we create. You can become and do anything you set your mind to. However, should you back out for fear of failure, you forfeit your life to be enslaved by another man's ambition and to the singular mindset of society.
There is nothing wrong with being different. For wanting something that is not usually deemed as wise or practical. Unless you do want that kind of lifestyle. Well then, good for you. But for those of you who don't, remember, this is no route for the lighthearted or security seekers. The path will be arduous and difficult. Few will be your side as you trek the road less traveled. Nonetheless, what is worth pursuing must come at no easy price. To achieve it, you must stubbornly strive to overcome.
To be honest, I say these words mostly to myself. It has been something I have struggled with the past few months while I try to find my place in this world. I know that many other people share with this problem- this fear. I say there is nothing to be afraid of.
But I do say let us rise up and unite under oath to be overcomers, to be dreamers, to be free thinkers. For we were not created to be slaves of this world, but intelligently designed for a purpose. Keep to the faith and diligently run after the race set before you. Not swayed by the left or the right and all the noisy people around you, but stay strong.
Alright. I could go on and on about this all day and never stop, I think I've made my point. Basically, just follow your dreams. Keep it simple.
Farewell,
