White & Black

In the beginning was black Then white exploded Some say God said “Let there be light” Others say Big Bang I don’t know any other Origin story But I know The relationship between Black and white Polar opposites Existing completely separate But never apart Yin and yang Dual nemeses To exist They must never mix First there was black Once before the birth of life Then white exploded Fading, until it returns to black And the cycle continues Until one swallows the other And they become nothing

Balance

The world is loud and noisy and I am not I hear you I hear all of you Am I heard Fight or flight There is only escape Escape and transcend all of your mindless chatter But remember There is beauty in the wind Wisdom found in the clouds If I could reach it If I could float to the stars And become Balance Because here it is too hot and cold Too dry and wet Too quiet and noisy Balance If I could raise my arms And levitate Transcend this world And float I am too heavy to float Nonetheless It is beautiful For the body To soak in the essence Of air and sound Balance

Short Story: Alienated

Underneath an Arizona night sky, amidst desert canyons and rugged yellow dirt that rippled for miles, Jannette lay on the hood of her boyfriend’s 2005 Ford pickup truck.  It was the year 2034, and being stuck in the desert with an ancient truck and no gas was the least of her concerns.  Shit had gotten real within the past year.  She lay gazing at the sky above her, one headphone stuck to her ear from an old CD player that played the same one album over and over.  Taylor Swift 2006 .  She had found it tucked into the cushion crevices of the backseat, and it became her only source of entertainment.  She missed her old iPhone with her hundreds of various songs, but cell devices were too risky these days.  Even radio was dangerous.  The world was completely without communication as far as she was concerned.       At least the sky was still beautiful, with its thousands of stars and galaxies.  Jannette reme...

Going to College for Creative Writing

It is almost the end of the semester, where students nervously scramble to get ready for finals and question all their life choices.  Yep, it's that time of year.  So this has been my first year of going back to college, and I'll admit, choosing to rack up debt for Creative Writing has been a scary choice to make.  I cannot say at this point if it will be worth it, nor can I advise it for other people.  It's my risk to take.      Most people in my field of interest usually go for an English major.  I was fortunate enough to find a university that had a program more dedicated to writing, but I noticed an issue in that program.  We all know the problem about English majors.  There are very little job opportunities, and writers seldom become successful in their writing and instead opt to be an English teacher or something similar.  Not good paying jobs or jobs with future promise, to say the least.  So I deci...

Review: The Progeny by Tosca Lee

Image
The Progeny by Tosca Lee My rating: 5 of 5 stars      So I just have to put it out there before I go any further that this review will have SPOILERS. Honestly I am just tired of reviews that scratch the surface and repeat the basic plotline of the story. If you want to know what the story is about, why not just go read the synopsis? As far as my basic thoughts I loved the story and yes you should go read it. It's fast paced and very intriguing.      If you are still here and have not read the story yet, I guess I'll add a little background. It's about a young lady who went through a surgery to remove her memory because she is hiding from a secret organization trying to kill her for deadly information. There.      To begin the nitty gritty stuff, if you are not familiar with Tosca Lee, she is a known Christian fiction author, who has mostly written biblical historical fiction. I myself must admit that I haven't been ...

Review: Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children

Image
For the coming film adaption of the novel, Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children, I decided to take a delve into this curious tale myself.  Judging by the book's cover, you might think that this is a creepy children's book, possibly filled with unknown horrors.  Although man-eating monsters do roam the pages of this story, I wouldn't consider it so disturbing that it would ruin the overall experience.  Young, peculiar children may have to watch their backs, however.  They are the preferred meal.      Back to the lovely children's book: the story is about a young adolescent, named Jake, who goes on a journey to find out what happened to his seemingly disillusioned grandfather before his mysterious demise.  Jake's quest leads him down a path he never could have foreseen or imagined.  A world where there are people with amazing abilities, queer attributes,  and dangers only thought to be in fairy tales.  H...

Reading Stephen King for the First Time: The Gunslinger

I admit.  I have never read Stephen King before, nor many other classically well-known American authors of today's modern culture.  Most of my reading history contains Christian literature and supernatural fantasy of Christian origins as well.  So I am on a quest to change that, beginning with all the secular classics to broaden my horizons.      I started with Stephen King because I am enthralled by the dark side of storytelling.  The heart throbbing, pulsating effect that a twisted morale can inflict.  And everyone knows that King's stories are ingrained with darkness.      Now I am not so sure that The Dark Tower series was the best choice for me to be dragged into the Stephen King bandwagon.  Reading The Gunslinger was an odd experience if I could put it simply.  Maybe I am just not familiar with his method of storytelling, but how he plotted this first book had me in a state of confusion fo...
